ENGELBERT  HUMPERDINK - MAN OF CROON, Schenectady, NY - May 7
What a wonderful day. We toured Albany City, learned the story of Ohnie and extraordinary city history starting
with Henry Hudson discovering the Hudson River in 1609, saw many magnificent structures from 1899 State
Capitol to 36-pillar State Education Building, and admired many statues including Phillip Schuyler whose
daughter married Alexander Hamilton. Washington Park was hosting its 62nd Albany Tulip Festival so we
stopped to admire the unusual assortment of beautiful tulips, and paid respects to Moses standing atop Mt.
Horeb. Early-bird dinner at Italian-American Club served hearty Italian food, delightful Italian music, yummy
(non-caloric!??) Italian tortes and cookies, and wonderful service. Engelbert Humperdink lived up to his reputation
as a crooner and showman. He thrilled the crowd with nostalgic songs, spiced with a few new ones, and a terrific
backup band. But he took down the house with Spanish Eyes and Release Me. At age 72, he looked younger,
slimmer and handsomer than ever. He had not lost his touch, his voice was as clear as a bell and on key, and
his charisma has not waned over the years. As expected, he was a
show stopper, and departed the stage to a
standing ovation. It was, indeed, a wonderful day.

CHARLIE  PROSE - FUNNY  MAN  OF  STAGE, Glens Falls, NY - May 23
One of most well-known comedians around - combining humor and song for a wonderful performance at the Glens
Falls High School auditorium, whose acoustics were superb. It's been two years since Charlie's major heart attack.
His charm, wit, and piano skills were as perfect as ever.
His voice was still on key but did not have the power he
once had, nor could he play the horn, a legacy of his heart attack. He had a young girl backup singer, and she
was not at all suitable for his kind of program - more for being on Broadway stage in a musical, not a soloist. But
it was a nostalgic enjoyable evening and may well have been one of the last ones for this beloved entertainer.

DANIEL  O’DONNELL - HE’S  BAAAACK, Saratoga, NY - May 24
One of most popular Irish singers around, a charmer that touches the hearts of all. With only one 15-minute enter-
mission, O'Donnell performed for 3 solid hours
- from Irish ballads to country foot stomping to church gospel to the
Irish jig. It was all there, as solid a performance as ever, the voices of Daniel and Mary Duff as duets were simply
perfect, the backup band was terrific, and the charm of this seasoned performer permeated to every member of
the audience, with standing ovations several times. It was a warm, sunny, glorious afternoon at SPAC, being
entertained by the ultimate performer. Lunch at the Golden Corral, albeit crowded for the O'Donnell buses, filled
our hungry pallets to perfection. A short tour of historic Saratoga and a "10 years younger" sip of the spring water rounded out a perfect day.

MYSTERY  TOUR, Troy, NY - June 9
Answers to the contest: Cogs and Clogs: Troy was the second largest producer of iron in US and cogs were one
of the first major products manufactured here. Clogs represents Troy's Dutch heritage. Space Program: RPI was
directly involved in NASA unmanned and manned spacecraft efforts for Gemini, Apollo, Mercury, and Advanced
Missions Programs. Amen: Troy has more Tiffany church windows than any other city in America. Ship to Shore:
Large cruise boats sailing around North America use Troy as a stopover to visit the Capital of New York State.
Cookies: The original Girl Scouts of America, Hartford Council, used to meet in Daisy Baker's Rest., which 1892 brownstone was home to The Young Women's Association, predecessor to today's YWCA, providing safe quarters
for young women who came to Troy for employment in this prosperous 19th century industrial city (4th wealthiest
city in US at that time). Diplomas: Troy alone has some major colleges of America - Rensselaer Polytech Institute, Russell Sage College, Emma Willard College, plus some 26 other colleges in the City of Albany across the river.

1000 ISLANDS, Alexandria Bay, NY - Jun. 13-14
Thompson's Resort, Alexandria Bay, is located directly on St. Lawrence River with private balconies overlooking
the magnificent river. The 2-nation cruise takes an in-depth ride around countless islands, seeing homes of the
rich and famous. One of particular note was a wealthy lady who wanted a home on the river, so husband bought
an island, which she did not like. So he actually made an island and built a house on it. Upon moving in, she
decided she didn't like the island, she didn't like the house, and she didn't like the husband. So that was the
end of that story! The cruise stops at magnificent Boldt Castle for a tour of this 5-acre, 6-story, indoor pool, 120
room castle, complete with tunnels, powerhouse, Italian gardens, drawbridge, and dove cote. Not a single detail
or expense was spared as George Boldt created a monument to the love of his life - Louise, and heart wrenching
love story's tragic ending. Two features of the area include 1000 Islands Winery tour and tasting, and Tibbetts
Point Lighthouse at confluence of St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario, to hear the forlorn sound of the original
old fog horn.

WALK ON WATER, Poughkeepsie, NY - June 23
Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge crossing Hudson River to the village of Highland was an engineering marvel when completed in 1888. At 6,767', it was the longest bridge in the world connecting our country in a new way, allowing
for increased commerce and transportation of troops to the coast during world wars. Seventeen years in the making,
the bridge was reopened Oct. 1, 2009, re-engineered 212' above the Hudson for 1.25 miles long world's tallest
pedestrian bridge. The walk across the Hudson is absolutely safe with stunning views of the Hudson River Valley. 10,000+ people have already enjoyed this unusual attraction since its opening only a few months ago. Locust Grove,
the historic Italianne villa home of Samuel F. B. Morris, inventor of telegraph, is a striking sense of yesteryear and deemed one of the finest of the Valley mansions.
Lunch at Mahoney's Irish Pub in downtown Poughkeepsie at
shoreline rounded out this unusual tour. ..... SEE WHAT YOU MISSED?

ERIE CANAL CRUISE, Herkimer, NY - May 30
Known as the "Ditch that Changed the Face of America", Erie Canal is the most successful waterway in North America.
Canal began construction 1817 in Utica, just outside Herkimer, and ran 363 miles across the state from Albany to
Buffalo (all dug by hand!), with 83 locks. Canal was completed in only 8 years at cost of $7 million, and completely paid
for by overwhelming traffic of both passenger and freight. In 1905 Canal was enlarged and its peak cargo of petroleum
products peaked in 1951. Soon modern technology began to obsolete the Canal as a cargo waterway and transformed
it into a "yacht highway" of 524 miles. "Lil Diamond" cruise takes us alongthe original towpaths, quaint villages of old,
through a lock, with beautiful scenery along the way. Lunch at waterfront begins the adventure. Afternoon finds us at
historic Herkimer Home,
1752 farmstead built by Nicholas Herkimer, son of General Johan Jost Herchheimer, one of a
number of refugees who, in 1725, settled at German Flats. He was an industrious farmer who also engaged in trade
and transport on Mohawk River, and held important contracts to provision military garrison at Fort Ontario. As a major
Mohawk Valley landowner, he acquired over 5,000 acres of land south of the Mohawk. It was here, about 1752, that his
eldest son Nicholas established this farmstead, pursuing his own interests in farming and trade, which were particularly profitable during French and Indian Wars. About 1764, he replaced his earlier dwelling with current Herkimer Home. By
1770s, Nicholas became the wealthiest and most prominent member of the Mohawk Valley's German-American
community and was active in local civil affairs. Herkimer gained military experience as captain of militia during the French
and Indian Wars. At the outbreak of the Revolution, firmly embracing the American cause, he was commissioned Brigadier General, commander of the county's militia. On August 7, 1777, after being wounded at Battle of Oriskany, Herkimer was
carried back to his home, where about ten days later his leg was unskillfully amputated. Reading the 38th Psalm from his
Bible, he died calmly a few hours later. Herkimer’s reputation as a hero of the American Revolution grew immediately and
today, his home is a shrine to the fallen hero.

OLANA & LIGHTHOUSE, Hudson, NY - July 17
Known today as "America's Rhine", the Hudson Valley was originally inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Mahican and Munsee Native American people, known collectively as River Indians. First Dutch settlement was 1610s at Fort Nassau,
a trading post in modern-day Albany, to exchange European goods for beaver pelts, later replaced by Fort Orange. During
rest of 1600s, Hudson Valley was heart of New Netherland colony operations, with the New Amsterdam settlement on Manhattan serving as a post for supplies and defense of the upriver operations. During French and Indian War in 1750s,
the valley's northern end became the bulwark of the British defense against French invasion from Canada. The valley
became one of the major regions of conflict during the American Revolution. In early 1800s, popularized by stories of Washington Irving, Hudson Valley gained reputation as a somewhat gothic region and, following building of Erie Canal,
the area became an important industrial center and lured rich and famous along its shorelines to built estates. One was
Olana,, Persian-style home of famed Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church, perched high on hill, surrounded
by extensive picturesque landscape of Hudson River and Hudson Valley. The Video, the tour, the gift shop, and the Interior
are a sight to behold. The Allen Lighthouse in Hudson, how open to the public, is a short cruise to the island, providing a
rare opportunity to go inside a lighthouse and see how keeper's family lived.

HILDENE MANSION & FARM, Manchester, VT - July 24
Bennington Stoneware Potters Store is one of the old names of New England. The Factory Tour. shows how this
famous tan and blue dot pottery is made. Since we're there at lunch time, a lovely box lunch starts our time at
Hildene, the Lincoln family home. Father Abraham was born in a log cabin, called from the humblest rank in life to preside over the nation during its most momentous period of history. Robert Todd Lincoln, only child of Abraham
and Mary Todd Lincoln to survive to adulthood, became chairman of Pullman Co., largest manufacturer at turn of
the 20th century. He built this Georgian Revival mansion 1905 in the scenic village of Manchester and became
home to only Lincoln descendants until 1975, longer than any other Lincoln residence. Hildene is an example of
“The Great American Story” - the Lincoln family love affair with Vermont. Historic home, gardens, trails, woods and
farm are set on 412 preserved acres of quintessential Vermont landscape. The 1,000 pipe Aeolian organ is played regularly, access to formal gardens is open, introductory video gives a wonderful full-family history. New Rowland Agricultural Center, new Nubian goats, cheese making from milking to processing pasteurization, aging, finishing
are the latest additions, plus wagon ride, and expanded gift shop round out the facility. A final stop is at Vermont Confectionery for ice cream and your choice of outstanding home-made candy. ..... SEE WHAT YOU MISSED?

SOUTHERN COASTAL MAINE, Portland - July 30-Aug. 1
Looking at a map, Maine seems small, but it is not. This tour concentrates on the southern end as a most unusual New England tour! Riding the narrow-gauge train along Casco Bay gives a rare view of the coast, as does the scenic
ocean cruise to Eagle Island to visit the little known Admiral Robert E. Peary home, plus island picnic. Lobster

CRAILO & THE OLD PRESIDENT, Kinderhook, NY - July 7
Fort Crailo in Troy was once the "fort" that protected Dutch families from area military activity, very old and very fascinating. When a battle was eminent, the neighbors would gather inside and watch the activities through the
gun peepholes cared in the stone walls. On the other side of Troy, is the quaint village of Kinderhook, is the Lindenwald
farm home of 8th Pres. Martin Van Buren. Known as "The Red Fox", video shows what a highly intelligent, wily,
unusual politician he was. The house was built 1797 and remodeled Italianate style, and contains much of original furnishings and decor in this 32-rm home. Down the street is the 1737 Early Dutch farmhouse of Lukas Van Alen
and the Icabod Crane One-Room School where we sit where
Washington Irving wrote part of the “Headless Horseman”. Lunch and shopping at Cracker Barrel, E. Greenbush, adds to the delight. ..... SEE WHAT YOU MISSED?

Early deadlines are required for the NEW show "Joseph" at Millennium Theatre. Of all characters in Bible, Joseph
best parallels that of Jesus. several amazing dream sequences include Joseph in colorful coat “flying” over audience, larger than life staging
including spectacular Egyptian palace scene spanning 300’ and wrapping around three sides of audience, plus 20
