MAY 12 ..... ALBANY TULIP FESTIVAL........................................................................................$ 75 /pers
Deadline: April 12

The highly anticipated spring tradition, rich in Albany's Dutch heritage, con-
tinues when over 100,000 tulip bulbs blossom into a sea of colors just in
time for Mother's Day celebration in Washington Park. The tradition stems from when Mayor Erastus Corning 2nd got a city ordinance passed decla-
ing the tulip as Albany's official flower on July 1, 1948. In addition, he sent a request to Queen Wilhelmina of Netherlands to name a variety as Albany's tulip. On July 11, 1948 her reply was "Her Majesty gladly accepts the invita-
tion to designate a tulip as the official flower of Albany." She picked "Orange Wonder", an 18-inch tall tulip that is orange-shaded with scarlet toward the center, a slow-grower and relatively rare. Unique to the Festival are beds of un usual tulips, each bed containing just one variety. Saturday also hosts
..................................................the excitement of multiple stages with nationally acclaimed musical perfor-mances, plus the crowning of the Albany Tulip Queen. A whole section of the Park is designated for craft and food vendors, so there will be plenty to see and do, and lunch will be on own at the Festival.

On the way home we will have a SARATOGA CITY TOUR and stop at YADDO, another historic garden,
with docent hosting around the grounds. DINNER will be at Lillians.

TOUR INCLUDES: Tulip Festival, Yaddo Gardens, City Tour, Dinner.

JUNE 19 ..... TEA MERCHANT of MESSIER HOMESTEAD, Wappingers Falls .............................$ 89
Deadline: May 19

One of the many secrets of the Hudson Valley is MESSIER PARK and HOMESTEAD. Early history of Wappingers Falls begins 1741, when two Dutchmen, Nicholas and Adolphus Brewer, millers, millwrights, brought
their machinery with them and purchased 750 acres of land around the
falls and built the first stone house in the village. Following year Adolphus
was killed by lightning and became the first man to be buried in the grave-
yard behind Zion Episcopal Church. In 1776, a well-to-do loyalist tea mer-chant Peter Messier of the Harney Tea Company from New York City
bought Nicholas’ land and homestead and opened a small tea store at the homestead. But Messier angered his customers with high prices and, in 1777, a number of people broke to his store and demanded tea, refusing
..................................................to pay the high prices. For three days, the intruders beat Messier, his wife, and servants, destroyed his property and raided his cellar. Having had enough, in 1891, Messier sold the Homestead and land to the Village for $2500, with the stipulation that the parcel of land and the building would forever be known as Messier Park and Homestead. Tour this charming Homestead and Grounds.

HI TEA LUNCH will be served by a local Production Company who will provide LIVE SINGING and serving
of scones with clotted cream, vegetable soup, gourmet tea sandwiches, and Dutch Colonial dessert.

On way home we'll stop at WALKWAY OVER THE HUDSON in Pougkeepsie.
Conceived to turn an old abandoned railroad bridge over the Hudson River into a pedestrian park, this new attraction provides a
truly memorable experience. This State Historic Park is a linear walkway spanning the Hudson River. At
212’ tall and 1.28 miles long, high see-through fencing on both sides and safe, it is the longest, elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. We’ll just walk part way. If weather is inclement, we'll just take a look and head for home.

He also is famous for Tiffany Lamps, which he first made from the leftover pieces of stained glass from his Windows operations.
